Se-Mi Hwang, born in South Korea, received early private lessons in piano, flute, violin and percussion.

After graduation at the Seoul Arts High School, majoring in percussion, she began her percussion studies at Yonsei University (College of Music) in Seoul, completing her degree in 2010 with a Bachelor. Since 2010 she has been studying in the percussion class at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart with Prof. Marta Klimasara and has completed her Master degree in February 2013, Konzert-Examen degree in January 2015 with best of best note.

Since then, she has participated in several other national and international competitions.

Remarkable among these, are the first Prize and the Audience Award at the 6th World Marimba Competition 2012 in Stuttgart, the first Prize in the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition 2013 in the category of percussion and the 3rd Prize at the International Percussion Competition Luxembourg 2012 in the category of percussion ensemble with her trio.

As a teacher she worked a lot with young musicians, preparing them for concerts and competition and giving workshops like the international music academy Schloss-Kapfenburg, International Percussion Forum and Festival Zagan, Music Academy Poznan, The Frederic Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and she was Lecturer (gast Professor) in Sommersemester 2014 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart for Prof. Marta Klimasara.

In her solo activities, Se-Mi Hwang regularly travelled back to her home Land and also to New Zealand, USA, Fiji, Zambia etc. where she performed among others with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Association Stuttgart, Euro Asian Philharmonic Orchestra, Gyung-gi Symphony Orchestra, Su-won Philharmonic Orchestra and the Russian National Tatarstan Orchestra, and in Germany, France, Slovenia, Poland, Turkey and Switzerland, she has performed as an ensemble musician and soloist with the Percussion Ensemble Stuttgart and the percussion ensemble Talking Drums; she has played solo concert at the Festival Young Euro Classic, Percussion Arts Society International Convention Indianapolis and during the Stuttgart Music Festival she performed in several concerts with the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Tan Dun, as a soloist with the State Opera Orchestra Stuttgart 2015.
